by Rahul Devi

The Centre has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the northeast region of India. Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced this commitment during the inauguration of various healthcare facilities at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong, Meghalaya.

On Saturday, Mandaviya inaugurated a new regional cancer center, an under-graduate medical college, a new building for the nursing college, hostels, eight modular operation theaters, a virtual autopsy facility, and a new guesthouse at NEIGRIHMS. These additions to the institute’s facilities aim to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to the people in the region.

Furthermore, the Health Minister laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed critical care block at NEIGRIHMS, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing critical care facilities for the people in the northeast.

The establishment of the regional cancer center will greatly benefit the residents of the northeast region who previously had limited access to specialized cancer treatment. This facility will provide advanced cancer treatment options, enabling patients to receive the care they need closer to home.

The under-graduate medical college and nursing college building will address the region’s shortage of healthcare professionals by creating more opportunities for aspiring doctors and nurses to receive quality education. This move will help bridge the gap between healthcare demand and supply in the northeast.

In addition to the physical infrastructure, the introduction of virtual autopsy facilities demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to medical education and research. This innovative facility will aid in the training of medical students and provide valuable insights into various medical conditions.

The commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in the northeast is crucial for ensuring the well-being of the people in the region. By investing in state-of-the-art facilities and expanding critical care services, the Centre aims to provide accessible and quality healthcare to all residents.

This latest initiative by the government reflects its dedication to equitable healthcare, bridging the healthcare divide between different regions of the country. It also highlights the government’s recognition of the unique challenges faced by the northeast region, including geographical constraints and limited access to healthcare services.

The efforts of the Centre, under the leadership of Mansukh Mandaviya, signify a comprehensive approach to healthcare in the northeast. By prioritizing the development of health infrastructure, the government aims to improve the region’s overall health outcomes and ensure that every individual receives the care they deserve.

The initiatives taken by the Health Ministry at NEIGRIHMS are expected to have a far-reaching impact on the healthcare landscape of the northeast. They bring hope and reassurance to the people of the region, knowing that their health needs are being acknowledged and addressed.

As the Centre takes further steps to enhance healthcare infrastructure in the northeast, it is vital for all stakeholders, including the government, medical professionals, and the public, to continue working together to achieve the common goal of comprehensive and accessible healthcare for all.
